Lights Out is an independent publication, launched in 2025 by Umar Hassan, a sports-loving data journalist and storyteller.
The idea for launching Lights Out came about after I noticed there was little data journalism being done around sports that weren't rugby, football or cricket. As a lifelong motorsport obsessive, I decided I wanted to create my own sports data journalism newsletter covering the sport.
Lights Out is purely focused on motorsport and not other sports. My goal with Lights Out is to produce motorsport data journalism that is both accessible and informative to fans.
Whether you are a dye-in-the-wool motorsport fan or new to touring cars or motorbikes, it's about using the numbers to understand why one rider/driver or team is outperforming the competition.
